a very sugary christmas

Published by Mintyfresh at 12:00 am under food

My friend and I renewed our lapsed annual Christmas cookie decorating party this year, unfortunately without one of the original founding members and former annual host. I got to her apartment bright and early and we baked until our backs ached!

Lots of people came, lots of sugar was extruded onto gingerbread cookies and sugar cookies, and there was even a contest (in which two of the judges were color-blind. Note for next year: Have judges who can actually see the cookies for all their worth). I managed to not take any shots of my cookies this year, and instead ate my favorite (a butterfly) today. Oops!

Here you can see how the table became totally filled with decorated cookies. (I’m there in the center of the table (no Last Supper composition for me, however). Astute viewers will note that the woman sitting to my left and I are wearing the exact same shirt. We bought them together, but lived in different cities at the time!) The cookie decorating was a great time. I’m totally excited for Valentine’s Day now!

I was just thinking about your cookie decorating posts the other day!! (Yes, they impressed me so much in the past that I remember and look forward to them!!!) You gals (and guys??) did such a wonderful job. I love the cracked bell. Do you have a good Gingerbread Cookie recipe you can recommend?

Aww, so much fun! And I like the nod to the ecumenical with the Star of David lurking back there, but of course the liberty bell is the bestest. Isn’t it amazing how mch baking cookies will make your back hurt? I was a cringing ball of pain after the squirrels.

Making cookies is really hard work. My forearms are still aching from saturday’s gingerbread cookies… I cannot believe you have a large group of friends that all get together and bake cookies! It looks like a blast.

It’s not The Last Supper - you’re not doing ‘big arms.”

    ;) Hee hee

I’m happy that this tradition has been revived. I know how much you love it. So on that note… I’m take a ‘mental health’ day tomorrow and going to bake cookies all day… Nanny’s Cherry Winks for one :) May need to do a double batch of those; and pecan crescents, yes? Yes!

Wow, you and your friends do cookie decorating right. The couple times Matt and I have decorated cookies we’ve ended up with 1/3 creatively decorated, 1/3 with lazy squiggles and blobs, and 1/3 naked. You’ve inspired me, though. Remind me next year to do it right.

Speaking of wearing the same thing, I’d say that 3 times out of 4 my sister and I get together for one holiday or another and are either wearing the same shirt (perhaps in different colors) or immediately exclaim “I have that exact same shirt!” And we never shop together.
