I had the exact same reaction when I received my Crayon yarn the first time. It has grown on me, but I know what you mean -- very bright on first impression. I made a couple Project Linus blankets with it, where I think bright was maybe a good thing, but an all-black-wearing coworker...maybe you made a good call. Also, I can see how one or two super bright colors are one thing, but a whole rainbow might be questionable.

My only thought is what if you used the two blues, the green, and the purple for the largest squares, so the red, pink, orange, etc. would be just a small bit in the middle, just a tiny percentage of the blanket? That might be more subtle.

Maybe you could do the same blanket, only in muted heathery colors. That would be very pretty and understated.

I'm glad you had this epiphany before you made the blanket. I would have had it when my coworker opened the gift.

OMG you made me laugh out loud!!! Between the baby gay pride and the rainbow throwing up - ha ha ha ha ha. Something more sophisticated sounds like a good choice though.
