By the way, have you considered doing intarsia? No seamed edge (or stitches-picked-up) edge that way, and it would be a REALLY easy intarsia to do.

Oh, if it helps, the baby blanket I made was 30" by 30" (I think) and used six balls of Crayon (I think) on size 6 needles (I think) in garter stitch (I'm sure).

Yeah, you have to go for the golden ratio -- much more soothing and pleasing to a baby than chaotic squares -- at least according to all the cool theories about the ways the golden ratio is pleasing to human perception. (In fact, I'm sure the baby doesn't care, but I still think it's a cool idea and the best choice.)

I like the Fibonacci idea too. Me myself being slightly geeky (I designed a tote bag -still unfinished btw- using the aurean number -however it's called in English-). So yes, I'd go for it. Have you realized any square only touches four other squares, and you could make it using only five colours! And each square would only touch different colours *grin*

Hey! I read that book! I like the Fibonacci rectangle for the blanket. The Crayon might be an excellent yarn choice -- are you thinking of using it?
